The Bataclan concert hall in Paris reopened with a Sting performance on 12 November 2016. An earlier draft on this blog named Pete Doherty as the first musician to return; that advance announcement did not describe the eventual reopening.

Sting’s official announcement identified the 12 November reopening concert. His site also published an account of the performance.

Why the distinction matters

A venue’s initial schedule can change. Reporting a proposed date as a completed milestone leaves an inaccurate record. Historical articles should make clear whether they describe an announcement or the event that ultimately happened.

A respectful historical note

The reopening followed the November 2015 attacks. Discussions of the event should keep victims and survivors in view rather than using the tragedy as sensational entertainment.
