Did Game of Thrones End with Season 8?

The original Game of Thrones series concluded with its eighth season in 2019. This replaces an older draft written while viewers were speculating about a ninth season.

The original series and the wider franchise

A prequel, spin-off or newly announced project should not automatically be described as “season 9.” Check its official title, setting and production status. Development news also differs from a confirmed release.

Where to check

Use Warner Bros. Discovery’s Game of Thrones press page and the broadcaster’s programme listings for official information. Streaming availability changes by country and subscription.

A spoiler-free next step

If you have not finished the original series, avoid articles explaining the ending or showing finale images. Decide whether you want to continue the same story, explore the setting’s history or read the novels: those are different experiences.

This article is a retrospective clarification, rather than a promise about future franchise projects.
